Storage tips for your living room: how to store with style?

The holidays are over, the school year is about to start again... It's time to tidy up and put away the clutter! This week, we focus on our storage furniture, which can also bring style to your living room. Check out our storage tips below.

The 60 second rule

The first tip is to apply the 60 second rule. How does it work? At the start of the day, or when you get home from work, put away anything that can be put away in 60 seconds. Consider putting the coat on the coat rack, folding the blanket on the sofa, putting the dirty coffee cups in the dishwasher and the shoes in the shoe rack. These little efforts have big results, because with these small actions your home will look tidier straight away.

Keep the clutter out of sight

In order to keep your home tidy, you need enough storage space. Not the tidy type by nature? Then opt for closed wardrobes that allow you to easily put your things away. Choose a stylish cupboard such as the webbing Polo storage cupboard or the Pisa marble dresser. This way, the cabinet not only serves as a practical storage space, but also as an eye-catcher in your home. Add some style to the whole by placing a beautiful vase or lamp on top, and this storage space becomes stylish in a flash.

Stylish storage with an open wall cabinet

Speaking of eye-catchers: do you have lots of accessories in your home that you want to show off? Think of a beautiful vase, coffee table books or cool plants? Then opt for an open piece of furniture, such as a wall bracket or an open shelf. This way you can display all your beautiful things and they become part of your interior.

Want the best of both worlds? Then go for a vintage wall cabinet. This will give you enough space to display your accessories nicely, but keep the clutter out of sight behind a door or drawer.

Give everything a fixed place

Would you even lose your head if it wasn't attached to your body? Then make sure you put things in a fixed place. For example, always put your keys and your wallet in the same drawer. Important papers? Put them in a folder and store them in the same cupboard as the other important things.

When organising these "fixed places", always keep a drawer available that you can use as a "junk drawer". Will your in-laws pay you a surprise visit? Are there charger cables lying around? With a single gesture, you can slide everything into the junk drawer and everything will be neat and tidy. So when you're looking for those items, you only have to look for them in one place, instead of scattering them around the house.

Create extra storage space with furniture

Running out of storage space? A smart move would be to buy furniture with a dual purpose. Don't hang your TV on the wall, but put it in a nice TV cabinet with lots of storage space. Besides a gaming computer and DVDs, there is plenty of room for other things.

You can also create extra storage space in the bedroom by getting a bed with built-in drawers. Store sheets and bedding in it. How about a sideboard in the hallway? Not only is it pretty, but it's also a good place to store your keys and even your shoes.
